Dougherty Blueprint Launches “i do” Printery
Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Brides in Albany can spend from $750 to more than $1,000 on custom printing for their weddings, according to the website, gettingmarried.com. Dougherty Blueprint is offering a new service called the “i do” printery to be the one-stop source for invitations, programs, signage, menus and decorations for weddings.
“We can create a custom logo or design for each bride and groom that makes their wedding unique,” said Frances Pearson, a graphic designer for Dougherty Blueprint. “For example, many couples choose a design using their initials and their color scheme for the wedding.”
Pearson was married last November and used Dougherty Blueprint to custom-print dozens of items for her wedding. That experience led to the idea for “i do” printery.
From invitations to cutouts of the bride and groom
While invitations are the most common custom-print piece for weddings, the market extends far beyond that traditional item. Programs, magnets, signs providing directions to the ceremony or reception, and menu boards are all possibilities.
“We had a coffee bar at our reception so I created a large menu board that listed the different types of coffee drinks that were available,” Pearson said.
Decorations for the reception can include wall décor with the bride and groom’s logo or even life-size cutouts of the couple themselves. “Just married” decorations for the couple’s car are also an option.
At the local bridal expo
According to Pearson, “i do” printery will be on hand at the Albany Mall Bridal Expo on Sunday, Feb. 27. In its 11th year, the event features all types of bridal vendors – from providers of wedding dresses to tuxedos, gifts and catering services.
“We’re very excited to go,” Pearson continued. “The expo organizer said we are the first printing company to attend.”
Pearson is currently getting books together to help brides select different options for the design and wording of a variety of printed items. The books can help brides who have been focused on other wedding details such as finding a dress and selecting flowers.
“Many times, invitations are the last thing a bride wants to spend time thinking about so we can help with that. And we can show them how much more is available in terms of printing for their wedding,” Pearson explained.
