Pro 1 Sportswear Promotes Local Business

Press release from the issuing company

Through embroidered caps or shirts, personalized notepads or mouse pads, Pro 1 Sportswear helps local businesses get their names in front of current and potential customers.  That’s consistent with owner Donna McKenzie’s personal philosophy of living local.

“I really believe that you should do business with the people who do business with you.  People need to buy locally and support their community,” McKenzie said.

A 20-year success story
Born and raised in Albany, McKenzie has been in the custom embroidery business for more than 24 years.  She began with a small operation in her home, then moved to rented space and now owns a house that she has converted into a base of operations for Pro 1 Sportswear and its six employees.

Pro 1 Sportswear embroiders custom logos for local hospitals, Dougherty County emergency responders and the local police department.  Local corporate offices also use Pro 1 for custom give-aways such as screenprinted t-shirts and monogrammed jackets.  Recently McKenzie added specialty items such as key chains, cups and lapel pins to the company’s offerings.

“While many people in Albany know us, they probably don’t realize we do all this,” McKenzie said.  “I used to rely on word of mouth for new business, but now I’m out knocking on doors.”

Promoting local businesses
In her sales calls, McKenzie explains the benefits and cost savings associated with promotional advertising.  She believes that “when you leave a pen and notepad with your company name on it with a potential customer, they see it every time they use it.  When your employees all wear logo shirts, it gets noticed.  That creates a lot of impressions for a relatively small cost.”

McKenzie has developed an eye for logos, noticing them when she’s out in a restaurant or shopping.  As a result, she’s developed a good understanding and strong appreciation for the local business community.

“I think we need to support each other and work together as a business community in Albany,” McKenzie said.  “When a community acts as a cohesive group and keeps a positive attitude, it shows.”

Supporting the community
McKenzie is a member of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club.  She has also supported the Special Olympics for more that seven years.  Pro 1 Sportswear provides embroidered jackets for the annual Special Olympics event and McKenzie often volunteers her time as a judge.

“I have a tender spot in my heart for children with special needs and their teachers.  I’m proud to support Special Olympics,” McKenzie said.
