When you think of companies that are environmental leaders, Xerox may not be top of mind.  But maybe it should be.  According to Ralph Levy at Digital Technology Solutions, the Xerox dealer in Albany, Xerox has taken a leadership position in going green.

“Xerox spends more on R&D than its next three competitors combined and a lot of that has gone into creating environmentally friendly solutions,” Levy said.

Innovating for the environment

Solid ink is a relatively new technology that is exclusive to Xerox.  It uses compact, “cartridge-free” ink sticks with no plastic casings.  As a result, solid ink printers generate 90 percent less waste than equivalent laser printers.  Solid ink color printing offers similar print quality, ease of use and cost as traditional color printing.  In fact, Xerox solid ink printers have won awards for their innovation, vibrant image quality, reasonable print productivity and excellent ease of use.

Another earth-friendly innovation is Xerox High Yield Business Paper.  The paper sheets are manufactured using a mechanical grinding process instead of the traditional chemical pulping process.  As a result, 90 percent of the tree by weight ends up in the High Yield Business Paper versus only 45 percent in traditional digital printing paper.  That means fewer trees are required to make an equivalent amount of paper.

“High Yield Business Paper is lower weight, which means it takes fewer truckloads to ship.  That’s also a positive from a green standpoint,” Levy said.

Xerox also pioneered remanufacturing of office equipment in the 1990s.  According to Levy, virtually all the usable parts from old office machines are remanufactured to new specifications, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Thanks to its focus on green innovation, Xerox is the first technology company to be named a Performance Track Corporate Leader by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, one of only five companies to ever receive this distinction.

Putting innovation within reach

Digital Technology Solutions puts Xerox innovation within easy reach of businesses in southwestern Georgia.  Their offerings include Xerox-financed leases with no hidden charges, award-winning customer service and machines configured to each customer’s specifications.

“People often think they can’t afford a Xerox machine.  But after we sit down and talk through the specific terms and operating advantages, they realize they can’t afford not to go with Xerox,” Levy reported.

According to Levy, Aflac – a leading provider of guaranteed-renewable insurance based in Columbus, Ga. – awarded Digital Technology Solutions and Xerox its Vendor of the Year Award for 2009.  The award recognized the achievement of significant reduction in Aflac’s printing costs.

“We have a team of specialists who typically have more than 20 years of experience with Xerox.  We can support our customers in all areas on almost every level,” Levy said.
