My name's Kyle Boyd. I'm here with Crown Networking Consultants here in Albany, Georgia. I'd like to discuss the new buzzword, the new thing that is out there, and that's cloud services. It's amazing how media and so forth, everybody, can take this one word and make it into whatever they want it to be. But in actuality, when it comes to cloud services, we've been using these for years and you just didn't even know it. You're asking yourself, "What is a cloud? Is it a white, puffy thing running by?" No. It could be if you wanted it to be. But cloud services are basically services where your data is held, is remote, is off‑site to you. It's not with you. It's not stored on your local computer. It's off‑site. So you're thinking, "Well, why is that good?" Number one, let's get the simple of it: if your computer crashes and your data's on there, you've lost all your data. So you could definitely see where that could be a problem. I think, definitely, some advantages that are with the cloud and cloud services that we have out there, there are numerous ones out there: the documents, the pictures. Your own website is technically considered a cloud.

But where it's really beneficial is where you can take either your servers or whatever information you can't live without‑‑I ask people all the time, "If you can't live without it, tell me you can't and we'll make the necessary changes or implement the changes so we can get that in place for you."

But it allows us, like I said, number one, your data's not stored on your computer. It's stored off‑site. Typically, where we would store this in the cloud, and people don't realize this, downtown Atlanta, there's an 18‑story building that has nothing but servers in there and that's all it is. Then our servers, in the cloud, if you will, is really just a building sitting over here that has dual generators, or dual air conditioners, different power feeds from the grid of the city. So that way you can have access.

Our society wants it and wants it now, so that provides that type of level of redundancy and reliability so you can have access to your data whenever you want it. That way, if you're not in front of your computer, you can pull up another app, if you will, and then get to your data. It does provide security and does provide some things that maybe your business may not be adequate to handle.
