Hello.  I’m Robert Powell with Professional Networking.  Today I’m going to talk about Voiceover IP.  Voiceover IP is voice over Internet Protocol.  What that basically means is that we’re moving the voice from a copper environment, which is traditionally what we’ve all had—the telephones coming in over the AT&T lines, BellSouth lines—into a new arena.  This option has not been available in Albany for smaller businesses until just recently, but as the technology improves and as our connectivity in Albany improves, it offers a lot of options.

As I mentioned, Voiceover IP is a new technology and it’s becoming one of the fastest growing technologies, particularly for medium-size and large companies.  Voiceover IP really means that on your data connectivity, your data that’s coming in, we’re going to place voice in that same environment with your data.  Today, because of the bandwidth and the amount of bandwidth that we have available, it allows you to put the voice in this technology; therefore, saving you an awful lot of money over the long run.

One of the things with voiceover technology is the way it’s priced.  It’s priced somewhat differently.  We all can remember paying so much a line, and so much for long distance, and so much per call.  Well, that technology, the new Voiceover IP technology, changes all of this and they are being placed in bundles, and we’re really talking about minutes more so than we’re talking about long distance times and lines.

In the Albany area the local providers are very limited.  We happen to be one of the providers in conjunction with the Water, Gas & light that do provide Voiceover IP.  Voiceover technology allows the client to place their voice over their infrastructure which they already have conveying the data network.  One of the major issues here in determining who your voice provider is going to be is selecting the type of business that has a reputation that has performed in the past and can do it, and I’m not talking about the AT&Ts of the world.  There are a lot of different providers out there including Professional Networking in conjunction with the Water, Gas & Light.
