Bishop Clean Care Looks Back at the Past 60 Years

Jud Savelle with Bishop Clean Care talks about the history of the company as they celebrate their 60th anniversary in business. He also shares the expansion of services Bishop offers and how technology has influenced their business.

I’m Jud Savelle; I’m with Bishop Clean Care here in Albany, Georgia, I’m the President and part owner with my wife, Jenny. And our company has been here in Albany for 60 years; this year is our 60th anniversary. We’re very proud to have been here this long.
And our company actually originated in Dauphin, Alabama when my grandfather’s brother, Eustis Bishop, started a laundry and dry cleaning company. In 1952, he brought it to Albany and my grandfather joined him. And they were engaged in laundry and dry cleaning for about the next ten years and they expanded into carpet cleaning. Back then, carpet cleaning was very different than it is now; not quite high technology like it is, but it was still effective. And eventually they sold the laundry and dry cleaning portion of the business, got more involved into water and fire restoration and also commercial janitorial services. So now, we service approximately 80 buildings in the Albany area in our Janitorial Division. We have a pretty significant water and fire damage restoration business and we have well over 2,000 carpet cleaning customers annually.
And we’ve expanded our services because for a business like ours, it makes sense to be diversified. It’s really helpful when you don’t have a lot of fire and water damages going on, you can rely on your other base services.
We’ve also kept pace with the technology with very advanced carpet cleaning equipment; we send our technicians to courses ever year to make sure they’re up-to-date on the different types of cleaning methods. We also specialize in high value Oriental rug cleaning. There’s not very many companies, even in Southwest Georgia, that do rug cleaning, especially for specialty rugs like jute, silk rugs, imported oriental or Persian rugs, rugs that are very delicate and very well made, we specialize in cleaning those types of rugs.
