My name is Captain Yos.  I’m with River Pointe Golf Club and in the summertime we have a special camp for our children.  It’s called River Pointe Pirate Camp.  I dress up like a pirate and in 100 degree weather I have a lot of fun.  Typically, we have hundreds of kids that come from all over the country.  Our camp has been featured in Southern Living magazine.  Our pirate ship has even been on HGTV.  We just have a blast.  We teach the kids how to play golf in the mornings, and as it gets a little warmer in the day we work our way to the river and search for treasure and adventure.  We even have a battle at sea with another ship where we literally shoot with a black powder cannon, and we shoot thousands of water balloons at each other and it is an absolute blast.

So River Pointe Pirate Camp, I’ve been doing it for about six years, and we have one in June and one in July.  The camps fill up pretty quickly but we have a few spots left still in the June camp and a few spots left in the July camp.  The River Pointe Pirate Camp came about when I first bought the golf course and I was looking for something fun to do with the kids.  So I figured, you know, when I was little I loved to swim in the pool so I put the camp together.  The kids played a little golf in the morning and then I brought them to the swimming pool, and after about an hour they were bored and they said, Mr. Yos, we are bored.

So I figured the next year I’d better come up with something better.  So I built a little pirate ship—actually, it wasn’t all that little—it’s about 30 feet big, and it’s been just absolutely fantastic.  The ship—actually, it’s built from scratch from old lumber found around the golf course and it really runs.  I’ve actually taken it on the Atlantic Ocean.  It’s a real ship.  So anyway, kids come from all over the country.  I’ve had people from Germany, from Holland, from everywhere, from Canada, and they just come from everywhere to be part of this Pirate Camp.  It’s a lot of fun.
