Charles Proctor, owner of Goldstar Emergency Medical Services, details what a private ambulance service is and how they are helping 911 emergency medical services.

Hello. My name is Charles Proctor and I am one of the owners of Goldstar Emergency Medical Services here in Albany, Georgia. My partner and I, Todd Hopman, cooked up this scheme to start an ambulance service. With my experience in the EMS profession over the last 25 years, we consulted some of the area EMS providers and saw that a emergency medical service that was not attached to a county was a very needed thing in this area. So we started running calls back in June of 2010. We've been in business for one year now. We've run over 2,000 ambulance calls and the need for this service has definitely been recognized by the people in this area.

Primarily we do transfers from one hospital to another, but because all of our ambulances are equipped with an EMT and a Paramedic, just like a normal 9-11 service would be, then we're able to take care of a patient that was in great need of medical care and not necessarily have the confines of a particular county to serve. So where a 9-11 service has to serve its 9-11 customers first, we simply respond to the need of the patients in our area without having to worry about 9-11 slowing us down. And that's basically how we've made our niche in this area.

We can take you from your home to a hospital, from a hospital to home, and of course we provide many patients with service from hospital to hospital. We provide services to all the area nursing homes and we would be more than happy to transport your loved one and take very good care of them. Again, my name is Charles Proctor. My partner is Todd Hopman and you could reach us at GoldstarAmbulance.com or you could call us if you'd like at 317-4911.
