Yalda Harris, co-owner of the Corner Café, shares her reasons why she and her husband happily entered the restaurant business.

Hi. I’m Yalda Harris. My husband Shane and I own the Corner Café. We bought the Café about two years ago mainly because I didn’t want to leave Albany, Georgia. Having been with Procter & Gamble for over 12 years I just didn’t want to move, and this was a great opportunity for us to stay in Albany. And Shane, having had over 15 years of restaurant experience, this was a great, great opportunity to stay within the community and for us to do one of the things that we had both been passionate about.

Having owned the restaurant has definitely been a blessing and it’s been a great couple of years. It has been tough though, at the same time, due to the economic troubles that everybody has seen. We bought the Café approximately two years ago due to two reasons. One, that was always one of my favorite places to eat, having grown up here in Albany. And two, my husband’s been in the restaurant business over about 15 years or so, so it was a very comfortable fit for him after I decided to leave P&G. And I left P&G because I didn’t want to leave Albany. So again, this was a great opportunity for him to have his base here in Albany.
