Rick Doherty of Doherty, Duggan & Rouse Insurers shares some company information in the current insurance market and why he's proud to call Albany home.

Hello, I’m Rick Doherty, I’m CEO and President of Doherty, Duggan & Rouse Insurers in Albany, Georgia. We also have locations in Cordele, one in Warner Robins, Macon and Athens. Athens is our newest one starting June 1. But Albany is home and we are very thankful to be a big part of the community here. And I want to tell just in a couple of minutes what we do. We’re primarily a property and casualty insurance company, heavy in commercial, business insurance. But as well, we do health insurance and a lot of Personal Lines Insurance.

Of late, we’ve been going through the trials and tribulations with our commercial clients as the main thing first and foremost in my mind and we’re pulling out of that. We’ve done a lot of work form a risk management standpoint with our Commercial Lines clients to weather this storm and to pull through things while their cash flows are down and their businesses are down and to try to help mitigate the bottom line for them with the insurance cost and to do some creative things from a cash flow standpoint, pay as you go, payroll type deductions on Worker’s Compensation, for instance. And some other things along those lines to help them out at audit time as well.

Athens is our latest place to spread to. We’re into some second tier type towns around Georgia. Macon has been a very big success story for us, Macon and Warner Robins, we started that four years ago and we’ve just been lucky to have had a lot of organic growth. We haven’t gone out and purchased another competitor or another business in those regions; it’s been all organic. Matter of fact, we were fortunate enough to be recognized by the University of Georgia for two years running as a Bulldog 100, which is a group of the 100 fastest growing business in the nation that are owned by a Bulldog Alumni. So we’re very proud of that. That’s not the reason we’re spreading to Athens, but it just happened to be a natural fit.

To tell you about what’s ahead of us in the property and casualty and the health insurance world, I will take a stab at that. But the health insurance world is just an absolute… anybody’s guess at this point in time. It’s a big mixture of politics, unfortunately, that’s involved in it, so we’ll have to let that kind of settle out and see what happens there. We are staying on the forefront, we hold quarterly seminars.

In encourage you to visit our website at HYPERLINK "http://www.ddrins.com" www.ddrins.com it’ll have a schedule of our upcoming seminars and a lot of postings as well about health insurance, the very latest because it changes weekly, if not daily. You can also catch us on Facebook and we’ll have updates there as well.
