Women's Health Professionals' Dr. Steve Kitchen comments on the recent news in healthcare.

I'm Dr. Steve Kitchen and I'm a physician with Women’s Health Professionals here locally in Albany and I know the topic of healthcare reform has been on the forefront of the news for quite some time and I think regardless of how you may feel about this current healthcare bill that has come forth I think most people would acknowledge, although I think we have the best healthcare system in the world I think there are certainly opportunities for improvement and certainly opportunities for cooperation between physicians, hospitals, patients, insurers and other people that are very, very intimately associated with the healthcare environment.

I think there are certainly opportunities to improve care and to reduce cost. Some of these are probably going to require some changes in our healthcare system as we currently view it. I think we’re probably going to see more alliances with physicians and hospitals to work hand-in-hand both to improve patient care, patient safety, but also look at outcomes that can help reduce cost. I think there are certainly things that can be done in the business community that will not only help promote health and expand healthcare services to our public, but at the same time maintain the physician, doctor relationship. I think some very simple things like allowing more healthcare insurers to come into the state and offer more products in our state just by virtue of competition will drive down cost.
