Thomas University Reaches Record Enrollment

Staff Report

Despite a national trend of declining higher education enrollment, Thomas University reports a record enrollment for its fall semester of 1,444 students. For the fall of 2021, TU had 1,388 students and 1,222 students in the fall of 2020.

“I often hear students say they chose TU because when they stepped on campus they felt like they belonged,” said Susan Backofen, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “Plus, the Thomasville community welcomes our students with open arms. That kind of experience is what brings students to TU. They come to earn an academic degree and prepare for their careers, but they stay because TU and Thomasville become a home away from home for them. These enrollment numbers prove that more and more students realize what a special place TU is.”

Administrators also credit TU’s new degrees for in-demand fields – including Exercise and Sport Science, Natural Resource and Conservation Management, and Computers Systems Management – as well as successful athletic teams and a low student-to-faculty ratio of 10-to-one.

This fall’s 1,444 students come from 40 states and 23 different countries taking courses in TU’s School of Arts and Sciences, which consists of all on-campus classes, and in its School of Professional Studies and School of Graduate Studies, which are both completely online. TU offers associate, bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist degrees.

“In spite of the decrease in overall college/university enrollment nationwide this year, it is reassuring that Thomas University has experienced an increase,” said Dr. Bob Bohman, Vice President for Student Life. “This would indicate that Thomas University is heading in the right direction. Our students enjoy the comradery that comes along with the complete collegial experience, and we are glad to afford them this opportunity with a myriad of sports events and student activities.”
