Phoebe Putney and Deerfield-Windsor School Partner on Awareness of Risks of Fentanyl

Staff Report

Thursday, September 15th, 2022

Phoebe Putney and Deerfield-Windsor School have partnered to help educate high school students on the dangers and risks of fentanyl.

“For ten years, overdose deaths among American adolescents – those aged 14 to 18 – remained fairly stable, but they increased dramatically in 2020 and again in 2021. Fentanyl is a major contributor to those deaths. Not only is it up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine, but drug dealers often mix fentanyl with other drugs, meaning users don’t know the true dangers of what they’re taking,” said Dr. James Black, Phoebe’s Medical Director for Emergency Services. “We must educate our young people about this serious problem and provide them with the knowledge and tools to help them avoid drug use, and I appreciate the chance to help Deerfield Windsor in their efforts to protect students.”

Deerfield-Windsor is committed to supporting students academically, physically, and emotionally, and this event will help students to gain knowledge to make informed choices that will ultimately protect them, and others, from physical and emotional harm.

Media is invited and welcomed to attend the event. Event details are listed above. Please report to the Middle/Upper Campus Main Entrance (off the Nottingham Way Parking Lot), sign in and you will be escorted to the event from there. In the event that you are unable to attend, photos will be taken and sent to this email.
