Dougherty County Board of Education Approves New Principals for 2021-2022

The Dougherty County Board of Education has approved a slate of new principals and principal changes for the 2021-2022 school year. The changes are as follows: 


Dr. Angela Shumate:

Lincoln Elementary Magnet School

Dr. Shumate is in her 30th year as an educator and is a longtime administrator in the Dougherty County School System. She previously served as principal at Northside Elementary, Albany High School and Lamar Reese Elementary Magnet School of the Arts. She was previously an assistant principal at Northside Elementary and teacher at Morningside Elementary. 

Dr. Mary Felton: 

Morningside Elementary School

Dr. Felton is a former teacher, administrator and assistant superintendent. She most recently served as the principal for Second Chance Academy in Evans County. Prior to that she was an assistant principal at Claxton Elementary School in Claxton, Ga., and previously served as assistant superintendent for Student Support Services for the Bulloch County School System.

Dr. Jaqueline Ponder

Lamar Reese Elementary Magnet School of the Arts

Dr. Ponder is a former principal at Mitchell County Elementary school and a former assistant principal at Albany Middle and Morningside Elementary. She is most recently an EIP teacher at Sherwood Acres Elementary. 

Tiffany Sevier

Interim Principal, Merry Acres Middle School

Mrs. Sevier is joining the district from Worth County where she previously served as principal at Worth Middle School. She has a total of 17 years of administrative experience as either an assistant principal or principal.
