March 12th - 13th CEFGA CareerExpo Connects 6,000 Georgia Students with Careers in Construction

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, February 18th, 2020

On March 12 and 13, the 2020 Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA) CareerExpo will connect thousands of middle, high school and college students from across Georgia with professionals from 20+ areas of the construction industry. The CareerExpo is an immersive experience, allowing students to experience the look and feel of an active construction site. Students will also have the opportunity to speak with industry professionals to learn more about the vast career opportunities in the construction field.

Now in its 16th year, the event moves to the Georgia World Congress Center for the first time, expanding in scope and allowing students to learn from more building, utility, highway, electrical, and mechanical contractors. Students will also engage with companies specializing in heating and air, construction management, sustainability, drywall, energy, mining and more.

More than 9,000 attendees, including 6,000 middle, high school and college students from across Georgia will have the opportunity to learn about careers in the building industry and speak with professionals from over 300 leading companies.

Created in 1993 by construction employers to address Georgia's skills gap, CEFGA is expanding a statewide effort to address two significant socio-economic challenges in Georgia:

The need to reduce the growing and dramatic workforce shortages in the construction industry

The need to create additional and stronger career pathways for Georgia’s young people

In January, CEFGA received a $5.7 million grant to empower the organization to create a model educational program that addresses the nation’s need for skilled workers in the construction trades. The grant from The Marcus Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation and The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation “seeds” a three-year investment in CEFGA.
