Medical Professionals Come Out To Support Career Fair at Lake Park

Lake Park Elementary hosted a Medical Career Fair on Friday, September 27th. Community members in the medical field showcased their expertise for Lake Park's Medical Arts program.

Local medical personnel provided hands-on activities for K - 5th grade students to boost excitement for careers in medicine. Two DCSS schools participated in the career fair. Merry Acres Middle Healthcare Science Instructor, Alexis Robinson gave students a glimpse of the type of medical activities offered at MAMS Medical Arts program. Dougherty High School Emergency Medical Responder Instructor Danielle Lovelace demonstrated first aid techniques using an infant baby and an anatomical model.

Phoebe Network of Trust representatives helped students understand the importance of overall health. Other Phoebe professionals who presented at the career fair were, Shawn Mabrey, Ultra-Sonographer; Kristin Culpepper, Occupational Therapist; Dr. John Newton, Anesthesiologist; and Sarah Newton, Nurse Practitioner with Cardiovascular Associates. Aspire Behavioral Health representatives and Music Therapist Wimberly Giardina gave students strategies for maintaining emotional health. Sarah Shiver with DOCO Health Department focused on the importance of good nutrition. Longleaf Dental Hygienists Jennifer Springs and Lacey Harrelson showed students how good nutrition also benefits oral hygiene. Kevin Bush with Albany Dermatology provided samples of products to protect your skin and reminded students to wear sunscreen. U-Save-It Pharmacists gave students a behind-the-scenes look at counting and compounding medications. Respiratory Therapist Instructor, Kathryne Brown, let students feel the demonstration lungs used at Andrew College training facilities.

Lake Park’s Medical Career Fair was successful in fostering student excitement about careers within the medical field. Students enthusiastically participated in each of the engaging booths. Lake Park students and staff appreciate each of the community volunteers that helped make career fair possible.
