Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) was recently named to VIQTORY Media’s Military Friendly Schools list for its value and affordability. Institutions were named to the elite list based on their ability to meet student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students, specifically student veterans.

Georgia Southwestern values the service that our military and veteran students have contributed to this nation and now gets the privilege to serve them in their educational success and connect them to the resources they need.

“Georgia Southwestern is honored to continue its tradition in being named a Military Friendly School,” said Mandy Barr, military student advocate and academic success counselor. “At GSW, we are continuously striving to provide top notch services and meaningful connections for our military-connected students that will follow them beyond the campus.”

GSW proudly waives student fees for combat service veterans, offers online programming that is conducive to service members in active duty, and has an agreement with the Department of Defense that allows service members, their eligible adult family members, civilian employees, and military retirees to use tuition assistance funds to pay for school.

To qualify for the award, VIQTORY Media takes into consideration academic policies and compliance, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and assistance, graduation and career opportunities, and military student support and retention. The standards employed at GSW exceed the Military Friendly® standard in each category.

Institutions earning this designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by the school. This year, 766 schools in the United States earned this prestigious designation.

GSW was also awarded the Patriotic Employer Award in 2018 by Ramona Mulleins-Foreman, DNP, GSW assistant professor and family nurse practitioner instructor. She presented her supervisors the award for their unwavering support before, during and after her year-long deployment to Afghanistan.
