Dougherty County Appoints New Chief of Police for DCPD

During the June 3, 2019 Dougherty County Board of Commissioners meeting, the board voted to appoint Kenneth Johnson as new Chief of Police for the Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD). A swearing in ceremony for Chief Johnson is scheduled to be held at the June 10, 2019 Dougherty County Board of Commissioners meeting beginning at 10 a.m. in Room 100 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Avenue, Albany, Georgia.

Beginning his career with DCPD in 1988, Chief Johnson has worked his way through the ranks, serving as Patrolman, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Division Lieutenant, Narcotics Lieutenant/In-vestigators with the Albany/Dougherty Drug Unit (ADDU), Patrol Lieutenant, Detective Division Commander (Captain), and Assistant Chief of Police.

“My mission is to ensure the Dougherty County Police Department is a dedicated and diverse group of professionals who are committed to working with the community to make Dougherty County a safe and desirable place to live, work, or visit,” said Johnson. “My goal is to partner with the community to solve problems and improve public safety in a manner that is fair, im-partial, transparent, and consistent.”

Johnson is married to Pamela L. Johnson and they have four children: Kenneth, Kenayana, Kierra and Kevin. Johnson succeeds Chief Jackie Battle, who recently retired after serving for 38 years as the Chief of Police for the DCPD.
