Dougherty County Board of Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting on the renovated Government Center at 222 Pine Avenue, Albany, at 10 a.m. on Tues-day, May 14, 2019. The 20-plus year-old building has been under renovation since fall of 2018.

Renovated with Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds, the Government Center has undergone a structural transformation over the last few months. The contractor for the project was LRA Contractors, Inc. in Albany, with a total renovation cost of over $2 million. Funds were utilized from Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI and VII.

With dedication to the exterior of the center, renovations included waterproofing the building en-velope, removing and replacing several curtain wall frames, including new break metal flashing and sills for the north and south entrance frames. In addition, deteriorated counter flashing caulk-ing was replaced in multiple locations, particularly at the roof, to masonry flashing joints. Both the North and South entrance doors and hardware were also replaced, windows re-glazed, and damaged windows were replaced.

Through extensive interior renovations, the overall appearance of the building was improved. Some of the interior renovations include removing old wallpaper and repairing wall surfaces, painting walls and ceilings, handrails, replacing copper troughs on each side of the atrium sky-lights, re-glazing and replacing damaged skylights, upgrading lighting to LED, replacing carpet-ing throughout, and several additional items.

As part of the ribbon cutting ceremony, artwork from several Dougherty County School System (DCSS) students will be on display in the lobby of the Government Center.
