Dougherty County Emergency Management Service (EMS) participated in the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Annual Disaster Drill on May 3, 2019. The drill was based around a simulated airplane crash with 39 victims.

With injuries ranging from minor to severe, students from Turner Job Corps were utilized for personnel at the drill. The Georgia Department of Public Health’s Disaster Preparedness Divi-sion “prepared” all victims with realistic makeup, including burns, impaled objects, and other in-juries.

A total of 34 patients were transported by Dougherty County EMS to either Phoebe Memorial Hospital or Phoebe North Emergency Rooms and were seen by the nursing staff and processed as a real patient would be. There were two EMS trucks present for the event, as well as a total of six personnel at the airport for the drill.
