Thursday, May 2nd, 2019

Owens Corning Platinum Contractors are working with Purple Heart Homes Inc to provide new roofs to veterans in need and their families as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.

Veteran Doug Ellis and his family will receive a new roof on Tuesday, May 7, from S&S Roofing and Construction, an Owens Corning Roofing Platinum Contractor. This nationwide effort is a way to show gratitude and honor the veterans who served our country and the families who support them. Since the inception of the Owens Corning National Roof Deployment Project in 2016, more than 120 military members have received new roofs.

Mr. Ellis is a retired, U.S. Army veteran who served two tours in Iraq before returning to Fort Bragg after his second deployment. Ellis was honorably released from active duty due to injuries sustained overseas and was medically discharged in 2013.

“Doug has spent his entire life putting others first and after hearing his story, we are indebted for his service and patriotism to our country,” said Mike Strickland, Owner of S&S Roofing and Construction. “It’s an honor to install a new roof for a veteran as deserving as Doug and to be able to provide him with peace of mind that his family will be protected for years to come.”

Owens Corning Roofing and its network of independent Platinum Contractors, along with support from the Owens Corning Foundation, are donating roofing materials and labor to replace roofing shingles on the homes of military veterans and their families throughout the country. Through a partnership with Purple Heart Homes, Doug Ellis was selected and approved as the recipient for the roof replacement.

"We are proud to partner S&S Roofing and Construction to provide Doug and his family with a new roof for their house," said Brad Borders, Vice President of Program Services at Purple Heart Homes. “It’s inspiring and rewarding to team up with local companies to make life-changing moments like this possible for our veterans.”
