Albany Technical College will hold its annual Memorial Day Program on Friday, May 24, 2019, beginning at 10 a.m., in the Kirkland Conference Center. Memorial Day is traditionally a day in the United States where we gather to honor persons who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Keynote speaker for the Albany Tech ceremony will be Colonel Alphonso Trimble, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia.  Colonel Trimble earned a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration from Boston University,  and is a graduate of the Air War College, the Marine Corps’ Command and Staff College, the Marine Corps Advanced Logistics Officers’ Course, the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies Junior Executive Program,  the Joint Forces Staff College, the Department of the Navy’s Inspector General’s Course and the U.S. Army’s Advanced Joint Logistics Course.  Colonel Trimble is a current board member for Albany Technical College.

After enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, Colonel Alphonso Trimble was awarded a NROTC scholarship to Morehouse College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 1990. After receiving his commission, he was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) Twelve in Iwakuni, Japan where he deployed and supported multiple exercises and operations in the Pacific.

Following his first overseas assignment, he served as the Second Marine Aircraft Wing’s Aviation Logistics Operations Officer and was promoted to Captain in July 1996. He then served as the Assistant Aviation Supply Officer for MALS-29 aboard Marine Corps Air Station in New River, NC., where he supported numerous combined arms exercises, weapons training instruction courses, and Marine Expeditionary Units’ deployments with the U.S. Navy’s Sixth Fleet.

In July 1998, he was assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Program and Resources Department where he managed a portfolio of Marine Corps’ flying hours, future aviation logistics support, and unmanned aerial vehicle programs and served as the Senior Marine to the Chief of Naval Operations’ Programs and Budget Division during the last year of his tour. From December 2000 until June 2003, he served as the Aide-de-Camp to the 32nd and 33rd Commandants and was present in the Pentagon during the 9-11-2001 terrorist attack.

After his headquarters tour of duty, Major Trimble attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA. Next, he reported to MALS-24 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty as the MALS Operations Officer in July 2004 and later, as the U.S. Marine Forces Pacific Aviation Logistics Department Future Plans Officer. There he served as a key planner for Avian Flu control measures, Philippine mudslide and earthquake crisis response measures and deployed in support of numerous joint/coalition exercises in the Pacific.

From June 2006 to June 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Trimble was the Commanding Officer of the aviation maintenance training school for MV-22, CH-53 and CH-46 aircraft at the Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training-Marine Unit located in New River, NC.  Afterwards, he was assigned as the expeditionary warfare analyst in the Secretary of the Navy’s Office of Program and Process Assessment until his reassignment as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Wounded Warrior Care and Transition Policy until June 2011.

During the period June 2011 through May 2013, Colonel Trimble served as the United States Forces Korea’s Chief of Current Operations (J33); Republic of Korea & U.S. Combined Forces Command’s Deputy Chief of Current Operations (DC33) and the United Nations Command’s Deputy Chief of Current Operations (DU33) where he led command and control efforts for joint and combined forces on the Korean peninsula. He monitored armistice related activities, missile and nuclear capabilities, and worked to reduce tensions on the peninsula and opportunities for situational miscalculations during and after the recent North Korean leadership transition.

In June 2013, he served as the Director of Readiness Division for the Marine Corps’ Office of Inspector General and was later selected to serve as the Secretary of the General Staff from January 2015 until February 2018. Colonel Trimble assumed command of MCLB Albany, May 24, 2018.
