Music and art will come to life as young professional enjoy tasting various wines at the AMA Contemporaries’ An Evening of Jazz and Wine. The event is Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 7-9 pm at the Albany Museum of Art.

The AMA Contemporaries series has grown into one of the leading events for young professionals in Albany and Southwest Georgia. This one will feature jazz music, great wines, artisan food and live art.

 Guests will be able to sample the variety of wines and enjoy delicious snacks by Georgia Grown Chef Todd White while they listen to New Orleans style jazz performed live by Southern Art Music Ensemble. An artist will be on hand to capture the evening in sketches, which will be done live during the event, and all the AMA galleries will be open for viewing.

“We want to get young people more involved in the museum, and we want them to enjoy doing it,” Beau Sinyard, a member of the Contemporaries committee, said. “That’s why we do these events on Thursday nights. Young people head out of town or already have things to do on the weekends.

“With these events, you can get off work, drop in at the museum, have some nice wine and good food, enjoy some good music, and you’ll still get to be home by 10 o’clock. And everybody always has a great time.”

Sinyard said he was “excited” about the wine tasting, though he added there will be other drinks available at the bar as well.

“We have several vineyards and large distributors participating,” he said. “You’ll get tickets for tasting. We’ll have rosés, reds, whites and some berry wines for people to try. There will be something there you’ll like, whether you like the dry stuff or the sweet ones.

Wines also will be raffled off during the event, Sinyard said, adding, “You won’t know the value of the wine until it’s sold.”

He said he’s particularly pleased that White will be preparing the snacks for the evening. “He’s a great chef,” Sinyard said. “I think people will really like the food.”

The music will simmer before heating up as the evening moves on, Sinyard said.

“We have a jazz band that’s going to be pretty great,” he said. “I think they’re going to go with some slow stuff to start out, then get into faster music as the night goes on.”

While the selfie revolution should be in full force, there also will be a more traditional capturing of the evening by artist Armon Garner. He will be sketching the night as it progresses.

“That’ll be neat, too,” Sinyard said. “We’ll have an artist who’s going to be doing live art. That’s kind of cool. You can get a glass of wine and walk over to see how the sketch is coming along. It’ll be a lot of fun and it’s unique.”

Adams Exterminators is sponsoring An Evening of Jazz and Wine, which is shaping up to be another successful entry in the series of events by the AMA Contemporaries.

“We’re just looking for it to be a really fun night,” Sinyard said. “We’re hoping for a big crowd!”

AMA Contemporaries members are admitted free to An Evening of Jazz and Wine. It’s easy to become a Contemporary. AMA members and new members who sign up at the $75 or higher level can get a Contemporaries membership by adding $15 per adult for up two adults on the membership.

Those who are not ready to join also are welcome. Tickets for non-members are $30 each in advance and $35 at the door.
