GDOT Presents Project to Replace Oglethorpe Boulevard Bridge

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Tuesday, March 19th, 2019

The Georgia Department of Transportation would like to know your thoughts on the proposed replacement of the US 82 Bu/SR 520 BU/Oglethorpe Boulevard bridge, which would require a detour.

The public is invited to drop by the Albany Government Center at 222 Pine Ave. from 4 to 6 p.m. March 28 to view the proposed project and detour route. There will not be a formal presentation but Georgia DOT representatives from all phases of project development will be on hand to answer questions. Attendees will be able to submit comments on the project.

The bridge over the Flint River was built in 1953 and does not meet current design standards. The new bridge would have four 12-foot lanes, a sidewalk on the north side and a 12-foot shared use path on the south side. A barrier would separate the path from travel lanes. Right and left turn lanes would be developed on the western end of the bridge. Construction isn't scheduled until fiscal year 2022 and is expected to take 24 months.

Those who can't attend the meeting may visit www.dot.ga.gov/PS/Public/PublicOutreach to view project files and leave comments.
