On February 8, 2019, Andrew College hosted Georgia high school seniors for its annual Pitts Academic Scholarship Competition. Contestants arrived for the afternoon competition in hopes of earning a full-ride scholarship to cover tuition, room and board. After a session of rigorous scholastic competition, two winners distinguished themselves: Bryce Barfield, a senior at Ola High School from McDonough, Georgia; and Calie Barber, a senior at Peachtree Ridge High School from Lawrenceville, Georgia. Each of these students was awarded a Margaret A. Pitts Scholarship, Andrew’s highest academic honor.

The two high school students join the Andrew family with strong academic profiles, solid standardized test scores and noteworthy extracurricular involvement. Beginning in August 2019, Barber plans to study history and play for the Lady Tigers softball team. Barfield expects to pursue business and play golf for Andrew College.

Funding for these new Pitts Scholars comes from the William I. H. and Lula E. Pitts Foundation. Established in 1941, the Pitts Foundation has continuously supported Andrew College for nearly three-quarters of a century. Andrew’s Pitts Library, which sits at the heart of campus, is named in the family’s honor.
