Marcus Guess Appointed Interim Chief of Police for ASU

Marcus Guess has been named interim chief of police for the Albany State University Police Department, effective Jan. 1.

Guess’ primary responsibilities include maintaining a student-first, community-oriented approach to enforcing state laws and preserving the highest level of safety and security for the institution.

Guess is a 14-year veteran of the law enforcement field. He has served in various roles at ASU, including as assistant chief of police as the commander of the patrol division, chief investigator, captain of police as the commander of the patrol division, lieutenant of police, sergeant of police, a police officer and as commander over the internal affairs division and training division of the ASUPD.

He has also served as a police officer for the Adel Police Department and a correctional officer for the Florida Department of Corrections and Valdosta State Prison. He is an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) active shooter instructor for the Georgia Board of Regents in Southwest Georgia.

Guess earned a master’s degree in public safety administration, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and an associates degree in criminal justice.
