Acrylic Paint Pouring Workshop Returns to Albany Museum of Art

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Tuesday, January 15th, 2019

A Saturday workshop for acrylic paint pouring art, a new abstract art trend, is returning Saturday, Jan 19, 2019 to the Albany Museum of Art. Casey Cole Corbin will be back to instruct of the Dynamic Fluid Art workshop.

“It’s great for beginners. It’s great for people that want to learn a new technique. It’s also great for advanced artists who want to learn something new to add to their approach,” Corbin says.

The workshop will have two segments, and participants can take one or both. The 10 am-noon class is for beginners, who will be taught the basic techniques for creating fluid art. The 1:30-4 pm session is those who attended the morning workshop or those who previously have taken a beginner workshop. They will build on the techniques they have learned.

Corbin says participants don’t need art training to enjoy the workshops.

“Mostly, you’re out of control. It’s a loose form of art,” Corbin said. “I always have some people (in the advanced classes) who are real professional artists and maybe taught art in school. I ask them, ‘Why are you coming to me? Why am I teaching you and not the other way around?’ And they say, ‘I’m tight with my art and I need to loosen up.’

“And this technique will loosen you up. Once you do what you can, you have no control and you can never repeat the same piece—ever.”

In the morning portion, participants are introduced to acrylic pouring art mediums, materials and methods, including quick-start guides. Corbin will teach fundamental techniques for puddle pour, clean pour, dirty pour, flip cup, flip-n-drag, dip, smash and swipe, which will be used to create three pieces. All materials are provided.

The afternoon class has three exciting larger projects—bi-level pour, Dendrites and The Wrap.

The cost for the morning beginner class is $39. The advanced afternoon class is $79. Both workshops can be taken for $118.

Corbin, a counselor, life coach, consultant and workshop instructor for 20 years, is owner Solutions Counseling Services.
