Storm Debris Clean-up Will Continue in Unincorporated Dougherty County Today

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Friday, November 2nd, 2018

Debris clean-up will resume Friday, November 2, 2018 in unincorporated Dougherty County. Dougherty County has time remaining on a 30-day emergency contract with Ceres, a debris removal company the county contracted with on October 11, 2018 and also contracted with following tornado and damaging wind storm events in 2017. The decision by county leaders to resume work under the Ceres contract comes after a week-long protest between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and another contractor put a halt to clean-up in the county.

“Our highest priority will be clearing roads that have become safety hazards due to debris in the right of way overflowing into the roadway,” said County Administrator Michael McCoy. “We hope the protest matter involving the Corps of Engineers will be resolved by the time our emergency contract ends. We have to move forward with our community’s restoration and cannot afford to wait any longer.”

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers began efforts Friday, October 26, 2018, to transition all debris removal in Dougherty County from county management to federal hands. Dougherty County ended their emergency contract with Ceres on Thursday, October 25, 2018.
