WellCare Names Dr. Clarence Davis Senior Medical Director in Georgia

WellCare Health Plans, Inc. announced it has named Clarence Davis, M.D., as senior medical director for Georgia. Dr. Davis will oversee the plan's medical strategy and clinical direction of medical services and quality improvement affecting Georgia's Medicaid and Medicare members.

"Dr. Davis is an accomplished healthcare executive with broad experience as a medical director in government health plan operations and clinical medicine," said Sonya Nelson, president, WellCare of Georgia, Inc., a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. "His leadership will be instrumental in ensuring our members receive the integrated, holistic care they need to live better, healthier lives."

Prior to joining WellCare, Dr. Davis served as the chief medical officer for Memphis Health Center. Throughout his nearly 30-year career, Dr. Davis also held leadership positions with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Memphis Managed Care Corporation and Memphis Health Center.

Dr. Davis received his bachelor's degree from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
