Dougherty County School System Superintendent Kenneth Dyer met with Congressional and Military Leaders last week in Washington to advocate for support for educational programs that support opportunities for students to be college and career ready in Southwest Georgia.

The annual "Washington Fly-In" is an Albany Area Chamber-led legislative advocacy initiative that allows for chamber and community leadership to discuss with members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation federal priorities of importance to Albany and the Albany Area and to Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.

Dyer and the group met with military leaders at the Pentagon to show not only their support for Marine Coprs Logistics Base Albany, but to also discuss ways the community and school system could better partner with the Marine Corps to support Marines and Marine families. They then met with congressional leaders including Congressman Sanford Bishop (D-Albany) and Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Ga).

It's the first time that the school district has participated in the annual event and is part of a broader vision by Dyer and his leadership team to think more strategically about the future of the school district and to garner broader support and partnerships in key areas.
