Albany Technical College Early Childhood Care and Education Holds Fall Pinning Ceremony

Albany Technical College’s Early Childhood Care and Education program will hold the fall 2017 Pinning Ceremony on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center on the Albany Tech campus.

Thirty-three Early Childhood Care and Education diploma candidates for the fall graduation and 22 associate degree candidates will be pinning during the evening ceremony. Dr. Angela Shumate, Principal of Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Arts, and Early Childhood Care and Education adjunct instructor for Albany Tech, will be the keynote speaker for this fall’s pinning ceremony. She has served previously in Dougherty County School System as Principal of Albany High School and Northside Elementary School and was a teacher at Morningside Elementary School.

Shumate has been in the education profession for 25 years. She holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from Albany State University; a Specialist degree from Troy State University; an Educational Leadership add-on degree from Albany State University; a Specialist in Educational Leadership degree from Argosy University; and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy. A member of the Beta Omega Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and a life member of Albany State National Alumni Association, she is also an ordained minister and motivational speaker.

A special dance performance will be provided at the ceremony by the Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church Praise Dancers, as well as reflections of the ATC experience by students. This ceremony precedes ATC’s fall commencement exercises, which will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
