Albany Technical College Holds Fall 2017 Honors Program Today

Albany Technical College will hold an Honors Day Program for Fall 2017 graduates on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center.

Nearly 115 candidates for Albany Tech’s Fall Graduation will receive awards in categories such as American Criminal Justice Club, Ambassadors, Engineering Club, Honors with Distinction, National Technical Honors Society, Phi Beta Lambda, Presidential Scholar, SkillsUSA, Student Fellowship for Christians, Student Government Association, and General Education Development.

Keynote speaker for the program will be Sandra Pinkney Parker, Retired Assistant Principal for Lee County High School. A native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Parker received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from South Carolina State University and her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Augusta State University. She retired after 22 years in the Lee County School System as an Assistant Principal, CTAE Director, and Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator.

Although retired, Parker continues to stay busy as a community volunteer. Some of her community involvement includes being a founding member and current President of the Board of Directors of the Lee County Female Minority Mentoring Program, a tutor for Whiz Kids, and member of the Lee County Retired Educators and Lee County Family Connections. She is also past president of the Board of Trustees for Girls, Inc., where she served on the board for more than 16 years.

A trained instructor for the Fanning Leadership Program at the University of Georgia, Parker initiated a Youth Leadership Program for Girls, Inc. She is a former member of both the Albany and Lee County Chambers Ambassadors, the Albany Chapter of the LINKS, Inc., and a 1999 graduate of Leadership Georgia. She is a recipient of the MLK Dream Award and was the Lee County Chamber’s 2016 Woman of the Year and 2009 Partner in Education Award winner. In 2005, she was named Assistant Principal of Secondary School Principals.

Albany Tech’s Fall Commencement Exercises will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
