SACSCOC Wraps Up Site Visit of the New Albany State University

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Monday, September 25th, 2017

Albany State University recently hosted a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges Site Visit Team for the 3-day visit, September 19-21. This visit was a routine step to measure the impact of the recent consolidation of ASU and Darton State College on the new university’s ability to stay on track and in compliance with SACSCOC standards.

The team interviewed students, faculty and administrators at both ASU campuses in Albany and the university’s four instructional sites in Cordele, Cairo, Waycross and Sandersville.  Tours of instructional sites closest to Albany were also conducted.

“We appreciate very much the detailed review by the SACSCOC Site Visit Team,” said Kimberly Holmes, ASU’s vice president for organizational effectiveness and strategic initiatives and accreditation liaison to SACSCOC. “We will continue our strategic efforts of comprehensive continuous improvement in adherence to the accrediting agency’s Principles of Accreditation.  Our efforts include efficiency and effectiveness in both delivery of instruction and provision of services that support both the vision and mission of the new ASU and continued growth in Southwest Georgia.”

The onsite visit was part of a comprehensive review by the team of ASU’s consolidated organizational structure, operations, procedures, budget and evidence of compliance with state and federal regulations. This was the seventh consolidation of member institutions in the University System of Georgia. Each previously consolidated university went through the same standard process.  An official report of the Site Visit Team’s findings is forthcoming.
