Staff Report From Albany CEO

Friday, April 28th, 2017

A volunteer-led Flint River Rhythm music event is scheduled Saturday at the Albany Shrine Club, where event participants are being promised a family atmosphere from which proceeds will support the work of Flint Riverkeeper.

Coordinators said the event is being conducted to raise community awareness of the Flint River watershed and the work of Flint Riverkeeper to protect and restore the river and its associated aquifers, for the benefit of current and future generations and dependent wildlife.

Gates open at 5 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 per person, and kids age 12 and under are free with adult admission. VIP tickets are available for $150 per person, or $250 per couple, with other VIP ticket packages available for sponsors and table purchasers.

The band Relapse will play from 9 p.m.-11 p.m. Stephen Harrell and the Dusty Boots Band will kick off the entertainment at 6 p.m. and play until 8 p.m. Guests can dine on food provided by Albany’s Austin’s Fire Grill & Oyster Bar, and alcoholic beverages will be offered with proper ID.

Attendees are welcome to bring chairs, but no coolers or pets are permitted, coordinators said.

Miss Flint River 2017 Darlyn Davis will be on hand to meet the public, and a raffle for an Old Town NEXT canoe will also be taking place. The Albany Shrine Club will also promote a 50/50 raffle with proceeds benefiting Shriner’s Hospital projects.

The venue is located at 135 Shrine Club Road in Leesburg. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., with two-drink tickets allotted for each ticketholder. Seating will be available under a VIP tent, and there will also be chances to obtain a one-year membership to Flint Riverkeeper, a quarterly newsletter, an event T-shirt and Flint Riverkeeper sticker.

Coordinators said tickets can be purchased online at www.2ndannualflintriverrhythm.eventbrite.com, reserved in advance by calling Flint Riverkeeper at (229) 435-2241 or purchased at the entrance gate on the day of event.

The raffle for the canoe, valued at $1,000, will cost $10 for one ticket or $100 for 15. Individuals do not need to be present to win, and advance raffle tickets can be purchased by calling the Flint Riverkeeper’s office by 9 a.m. Friday.

A cornhole tournament will be conducted with a $25 registration fee due at noon before the bags fly at 1 p.m. The fee also goes to benefit Flint Riverkeeper.

Sponsorships are available with incentives and marketing opportunities. For more information on those opportunities, contact Jayme Smith, the Flint Riverkeeper development and outreach director, at (229) 220-9796 or [email protected]
