Dyer Approved as New DCSS Superintendent

Staff Report From Albany CEO

The Dougherty County Board of Education voted to approve a contract Wednesday that would make Associate Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer Kenneth Dyer the next superintendent, pending review of the contract by the school board attorney.

The board voted February to name Dyer their appointee in principal, which started the process to reach an agreement on a contract. Dyer, who has been with the system for the last six years, has more than 15 years of educational experience working in both secondary and higher education. He previously worked for the city of Albany as their finance director.

The decision comes following the support of retiring superintendent Dr. David C. Mosely, who has been an advocate for Mr. Dyer's promotion since Mosely announced his plans to retire at the end of the school year.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to continue the great work we've begun here under Dr. Mosely's leadership. I look forward to working with our district leaders, as well as our teachers, parents and the community at large as we seek to get each of our students to maximize his or her individual potential and leave the DCSS college and career ready," Dyer said.

"My first steps will be to fill some key vacancies and hit the ground running as we continue to implement our charter system flexibility. We believe the flexibility and autonomy provided under our charter gives the principals greater ability to meet the unique needs of their students.

"I thank Dr. Mosely for his leadership the last several years. The experience of working side-by-side with him and Mr. Willis has been invaluable. It is my goal to build upon the foundation that has been laid and lead the DCSS to even greater heights."
