“What do you want to be when you grow up?” was one of several questions Dr. Beverly Robinson, Transition Assistance Program facilitator, GBX Consultants, posed to participants who attended the weeklong Transition Readiness Seminar held at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, recently.

Life after the Corps for transitioning service members and families can create feelings of anxiety when facing the uncertainty for a future once separated from the structured routine of military life.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany’s TAP team and transition partners offer some exit strategies and address many questions and concerns, which may assist active-duty military families to adjust to civilian careers, explore available benefits and other options.

Robin Gray, program manager, Transition Readiness Program, MCLB Albany, gave a brief overview of the TAP objectives.

“The Transition Assistance Program provides information, tools and training to ensure service members and their spouses are prepared for the next step in civilian life,” Gray said. “Whether pursuing additional education, finding a job in the public or private sector or starting their own businesses, this five-day seminar is an extraordinary week of information and training to ensure that service members leave active-duty service prepared for the next step in their life.

“This redesigned TAP is the result of an interagency collaboration to offer separating service members and their spouses a better, more easily accessible resources and information to make their transitions more successful,” she continued.

Individual mock job interviews are another critical resource provided to eligible participants during the monthly TAP training.

Kimberly Norville, career transition trainer, GBX Consultants, along with a TAP panel of interviewers grilled participating service members with a series of questions, while critiquing their appearance, posture and response delivery, during the job-readiness segment of the seminar.

According to TAP facilitators and the program manager, whether pursuing additional education, finding employment or starting a business, the five-day seminar will provide participants with “in-depth knowledge of the mandatory Career Readiness Standards, as well as other accessible resources and information to make their transitions more successful.”
