The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission launched a new phase of its “#MadeInAlbanyGA” campaign featuring Red Heart yarn producer, Coats & Clark.

The campaign is designed to increase community awareness on products produced by local industries and highlight the manufacturing potential of the Albany area.

“Coats & Clark is Albany’s longest-standing industry, having located here in 1947,” said ADEDC President Justin Strickland. “Having an industry enjoy nearly 70 years of sustained success in Albany-Dougherty County speaks volumes of the community’s potential to accommodate and support major manufacturers. Like many products produced in Albany, Red Heart yarn is a national favorite. It’s our workforce right here in Albany, Georgia that maintains and ensures the quality of that brand.”

Coats & Clark’s yarn is recognized at a brand awareness level of over 80% among knitting and crochet enthusiasts, making it the most popular yarn in the United States and earning it the title of “America’s Most Recommended Yarn Brand” by the Women’s Choice Awards for three years running, having recently been re-awarded the 2017 title.

Albany’s Coats & Clark facility is part of a specialized division of the company known as Coats Crafts North America. The Albany location is the network’s leading producer of its #1 product, Red Heart yarn, of which the facility produces 37 million rolls, annually-enough to reach to the moon and back when stretched out end-to-end.
