Area Law Enforcement & Public Safety Officials to be Honored at Sumter on Ice

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

As the sounds of laughter and holiday cheer fill the air, the spirit of the season continues as Sumter on Ice honors all of our Heroes Behind the Badge on Monday, December 26, in recognition and support of all law enforcement and public safety officials on a day of “Skating for Service.” The ice will be open for all at 1pm at Rylander Park in Downtown Americus.  Public safety officials of all branches of service and their families will skate for free that day, and members of the public are encouraged to come out and show their thanks and appreciation by skating with them.

The Sumter County Chamber of Commerce will grill and serve hotdogs throughout the day at no cost, as long as they are available, for skaters and onlookers alike to mingle and demonstrate our gratitude for all who serve and protect our communities throughout the year, both here in Sumter County and in the surrounding areas.  Members of the public are invited to join our law enforcement and public safety officials that day, as general admission for those not in service will be $5 per person per hour.  Sumter on Ice will be open that day through its regularly scheduled closing time at 9pm.

The price of admission includes skate time, as well as skates in all sizes available for children and adults of all ages to rent.

Sumter on Ice continues to be open through the holiday season, ending its run on December 30 at 9pm in time to ring in the New Year.  In observance of the Christmas holiday, the ice will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to allow guests and volunteers to spend time with family and loved ones.

General hours of operation are listed below:

·         Monday, December 26 – 1-9pm

·         Tuesdays-Fridays (December 20-30) – 4-9pm

·         *Ice is closed in the event of rain or inclement weather.
