Geoffrey Sudderth will be Next Head of School for DWS

Ron Mitchell, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Deerfield-Windsor School is pleased to announce that Geoffrey Sudderth will be the next Head of School, beginning July 1, 2017.  Sudderth currently serves as Director of Middle and Upper Schools.  The Search Committee was impressed with his collaborative, student-centered leadership style as well as his understanding of the school’s history. Sudderth’s selection is the result of a comprehensive process by the Board-selected Search Committee, assisted by Southern Teachers.

A graduate of Colby College, Sudderth earned a Masters of Educational Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University.  An experienced teacher, coach, and administrator, he began his teaching career teaching third grade through the Teach for America program before joining the faculty at his alma mater, The Westminster Schools in Atlanta.  In his decade at Westminster, Sudderth taught literature, composition, and AP English, and coached Cross Country and Track and Field teams that collectively won 12 GHSA State Championships and included 14 Individual State Champions. 

In 2011, Sudderth was named Grade Chair for the Class of 2015, which allowed him to work with students and parents in a new capacity, leading him to pursue school leadership.  He was also the Director of Odyssey High, a cost-free summer enrichment program for students in the Atlanta Public Schools. In 2014, Deerfield-Windsor was pleased to hire Sudderth as Director of Middle and Upper Schools. As a 2016 graduate of Leadership Albany, he has demonstrated a commitment to engage DWS in the Albany community.

In accepting the position, Sudderth said, “Cynthia and I were embraced by the DWS family from the moment we arrived in June of 2014 and consider it an honor and privilege to work with students, parents, teachers, and the Albany community in this new capacity. We are excited to partner with the DWS community to ensure the school remains a competitive, successful institution for years to come.”
