Sherwood Christian Academy’s soccer team hosted the 2016 Tournament Under the Cross on March 12, at the Legacy Park facility on Sherwood’s campus in Albany.

According to Chad Evans, athletic director, this is the tenth year Sherwood Christian Academy has hosted the event and this year had a record 30 teams participating.

“This is the largest high school soccer tournament in the state,” said Evans, who estimates the attendance was more than 1,200 with players, coaches, and family members in attendance. Also in attendance were approximately 20 college coaches observing the tournament, which increases exposure for these athletes.

Sherwood Christian Academy Boys Soccer Coach Jeremy Davidson, who also serves as tournament director, has high hopes to turn the annual event into a college showcase tournament for Christian colleges.

“We invest in these kids not just academically and athletically, but spiritually,” Davison said. “My goal is to pass these kids on to colleges who have that same focus.”
