The first candidacy for the at-large seat on the Dougherty County Board of Education is expected to be formally announced Friday afternoon.

In an email Thursday, Susie Ealum, daughter of state Rep. Darrel Ealum, D-Albany, a former member of the Dougherty School Board, said she intended to make a formal announcement of her candidacy at 4 p.m. Friday in front of the School Administration Building on Washington Street.

Ealum is running for the seat that is currently held by Dr. Lane Price, who has announced that she will not run for re-election. Price’s term ends Dec. 31 and the seat will be decided in this year’s elections.

In a bio she released Thursday, Ealum, who was raised in Dougherty County, said she operates a business with her husband and is a captain in the Marine Corps Reserves. A high school scholar athlete and graduate of the University of Georgia, she served in the Marines as a combat engineer and served in Afghanistan as a combat convoy commander.
