The Albany Museum of Art has three new exhibitions that will open on Thursday, February 4, 2016 for an exclusive member’s preview reception and to the public on February 5, 2016.

In the Haley Gallery, Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism will be open until June 11, 2016. In the East Gallery, A True Likeness: The Black South of Richard Samuel Roberts will be on display until May, 28, 2016. In the Hodges Gallery, AE Jenkins: Connection to the Past will also be on display until May 28, 2016.

The Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism exhibition consists of 70 pieces from 65 artists that are all done in the realism style meaning the subjects are presented in a realistic manner with no exaggeration while being created. These pieces were selected by a jury-of-peers shaped by the director of the project’s tour director David J. Wagner, LLC.

A True Likeness: The Black South of Richard Samuel Roberts is a collection of 20 gelatin silver print photographs from the self-taught African American photographer, Richard Samuel Roberts. Roberts took remarkable portraits of African American Columbians between 1920 and 1936 while he lived in South Carolina. He captures the subjects’ dignity, determination, and strength of spirit despite the trying times they were enduring.

AE Jenkins: Connection to the Past will be the juxtaposition of 20 modern portraits of African Americans of the Albany area from local photographer; Adrian Jenkins Jr. has been a photographer in Albany for decades first through Cochran Studios and then AE Jenkins Photography. His pieces will serve as a reference point to see how things have changed in comparison to Robert’s photos in regards to family dynamics and fashion.
