The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced today that Emma Goldsmith, Deerfield-Windsor School Class of 2016, is a semifinalist in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. Emma is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Stuart Goldsmith of Albany. Goldsmith is the only semifinalist from Southwest Georgia.

Of 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools in the world who entered the program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), less than one percent, the highest scoring students, are recognized as semifinalists.

Semifinalists may advance to become Finalists or Scholars and compete for national, corporate, and institutional scholarships.  Finalists and scholarship winners will be announced later this school year.

Dave Davies, DWS Headmaster, said “Emma is an outstanding scholar and a student leader in our community.  Her drive to succeed is commendable, and I am confident that she will advance to Finalist and Scholar status.  This recognition brings honor to Emma and her parents and is validation of our faculty and academic program at DWS. We wish her the best as she continues on in the competition.”
