Dave Davies, Headmaster of Deerfield-Windsor School recently announced that Helena Augenstein, Lanier Freeman, Hadden Kelley, and Matthew Williams, DWS seniors, have been named Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.
In presenting the Letters of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Davies said, “Not only are these four young people excellent students, but they are student leaders, performing artists, and varsity athletes. They represent the very best qualities in Deerfield-Windsor students and are a credit to their families and the School.”
Augenstein is the daughter of Drs. Ralf Augenstein and Hanna Lin, Freeman is the son of Greg and Sue Freeman, Kelley is the son of Dr. Michael and Mrs. Darlene Kelley, and Williams is the son of Dr. Jay and Mrs. Lynn Williams.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
