Harvey's Supermarkets to Close Two Albany Locations

Press release from the issuing company

Friday, May 29th, 2015

Southeastern Grocers LLC, parent company of Harvey’s Supermarkets, announced Thursday that the company will close two Harvey’s locations in Albany next month.

According to a news release issued by St. John’s and Partners, which handles public relations for Southeastern Grocers, the company will be closing Harvey’s store No. 1600, at 325 N. Slappey Blvd., and store No. 1612 at 2527 Dawson Road.

Those closings are expected on or before June 23. The company will have three remaining locations in Albany.

The move comes roughly two years after Southeastern Grocers, formerly Bi-Lo Holdings, acquired the Harvey’s Supermarkets chain and a little over a year after Southeastern Grocers, which also owns Winn Dixie, re-branded two area Winn Dixie locations as Harvey’s.

The press release did not state why the stores were being closed, but with the conversion of the Winn Dixie stores into Harvey’s locations in early 2014, the number of Harvey’s locations in Albany had expanded to five, with a sixth store located in Leesburg, just minutes from Albany.

Associates at the two closing locations will be given the opportunity to apply for open positions within the company, the majority of which likely will be offered positions at nearby stores, the press release said.

Once the two stores are closed Harvey’s will still operate four other locations in the area at 2310 N. Slappey Blvd., 1032 W. Gordon Ave., 2800 Old Dawson Road in Albany and 1553 U.S. Highway 19 South in Leesburg.
