Albany State University will host its inaugural “Acceptance Day” Saturday, April 18, to celebrate newly admitted students who have made the decision to attend ASU.

“This day is set aside to identify those students who have taken advantage of the early admissions process and have received their decisions,” said Leslie Charles, director for the ASU Office of Admissions. “We want to celebrate the accomplishments of our prospective students and highlight the outstanding academic programs that ASU has to offer.”

Activities will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Orene Hall and will include pre-advisement sessions, a Signing Day Ceremony and a luncheon to honor scholarship recipients. Financial aid advisors and student housing staff members will also be in attendance.

The event is in conjunction with the “Reach Higher College Signing Day” national events developed by First Lady Michelle Obama. The events serve to celebrate graduating seniors nationwide who have committed to completing his or her education beyond high school.

“Students spend a lot of time searching for the right institution,” said Paul Bryant, ASU associate provost for enrollment management. “When they’ve made that choice to come to Albany State, we want to stop and show that this is a phenomenal milestone. We want to take time out to talk about what this really means for them.”

A second “Acceptance Day” will be held May 2.
