The Georgia Lottery Corp. today announced record profits for education for the first quarter of fiscal year 2015. Profits transferred to the State Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account will amount to $227,914,000, surpassing last year’s first quarter transfer by more than $3.2 million.

The Georgia Lottery’s first quarter profits bring the total raised for educational programs in the state of Georgia to more than $15.7 billion since the lottery’s inception in 1993.

“We remain focused on our mission of maximizing revenues for the important educational programs we fund,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Debbie D. Alford. “Our fiscal year is off to a strong start, which is great news for the many students and families who benefit from the HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs.”
The first quarter of the Georgia Lottery’s fiscal year spanned from July 1, 2014, to Sept. 30, 2014.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
