Governor Appoints 5 to State Boards

James D. Barrett, Professional Standards Commission

Barrett teaches seventh and eighth grade Social Studies at Saddle Ridge Middle School in the Walker County School District. He is president of the Walker County Association of Educators. He officiates high school football and soccer in Georgia and in 2010, was named Georgia’s Soccer Official of the Year. He is a longtime member of the Georgia Association of Educators as well as Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Gamma and Phi Alpha Theta fraternities. He also belongs to the Georgia Athletic Officials Association and the National Association of Sports Officials. Barrett earned his bachelor’s degree from Augusta State University, a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and a doctorate degree in Education from Arizona State University. He resides in Catoosa County.

Christy C. McGill, Professional Standards Commission (reappointment)

McGill has been a teacher in Gwinnett County for thirteen years, where she currently teaches kindergarten at Dacula Elementary School. During her career, she has had the opportunity to attend Gwinnett County’s Literacy and Math Institute and was named a Teacher of the Year Finalist at Dacula Elementary in 2008. She received a bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University. In addition, she received a Teacher Support Specialist endorsement through Gwinnett County and has been trained in mentoring teachers. McGill and her husband have two children. They reside in Grayson.

Bill M. Hutson, Board of Commissioners of the Sheriffs Retirement Fund (reappointment)

Hutson is a retired sheriff of Cobb County. He served as executive director of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and as president of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia and the County Officers’ Association of Georgia. He served on the State Board of Corrections, the Georgia State Crime Commission and was on the board of directors of the National Sheriffs’ Association. He has received numerous awards including Sheriff of the Year and being named one of Georgia’s Most Influential People by James Magazine. Hutson attended Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and the National Sheriffs’ Institute at the University of Southern California. He and his wife, Jackie, have two adult children and four grandchildren. They reside in Marietta.

Richard S. Ambrose, Board of Juvenile Justice (reappointment)

Ambrose was a member of the U.S. Army for more than 20 years and taught ROTC at Dooly County High School for 13 years before retirement. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a master’s degree in Professional Studies. Ambrose’s other educational experience includes the infantry officer’s basic course, the advanced infantry officer’s course, the armed forces staff college and airborne/ranger school. He served overseas in Germany and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. He resides in Vienna.

Robert P. Voyles, Board of Directors of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (reappointment)

Voyles is a 32-year veteran of Atlanta real estate. He is the chief executive officer and founder of Seven Oaks Company, LLC. He currently serves on the Perimeter Community Improvement District Board, Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Stadium Authority, Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Livable Communities Coalition and as co-chair of the Metropolitan Atlanta Community Improvement District Coalition. Voyles earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, master’s degree from George Washington University and a law degree from Emory University. He and his wife, Belle, have four children and two grandchildren. They reside in Atlanta.
