Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

Local mental health and other providers interested in working with military families are invited to attend one of the first in a series of Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) trainings at Darton State College on July 30, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The training introduces military culture, including information about the impact of deployment on families and children.

The trainers will engage participants and share their personal and professional experiences with service members and their families. The training course material was created by the respected Center for Deployment Psychology.

Star Behavioral Health Providers is a tier-based continuing education program offering free CEUs to clinical professionals (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, and Clinical Psychologists) through up-to-date workshops focused on the unique needs of the military community. As providers progress through three tiers of training they are listed on an online registry of behavioral health professionals with specialized training in understanding and treating military service members and their families. From this registry, the Georgia Army National Guard Behavioral Health Case Management Program will make community referrals.
