The Georgia Lottery Corp. continues its 20-year anniversary celebration with record-breaking results. Lottery officials announced today that fiscal year 2013 profits transferred to the State Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account will amount to $927,478,000, surpassing last year’s record transfer by more than $26 million.

This brings the total raised for education in the state of Georgia to more than $14.6 billion since the lottery’s inception in 1993.

“Our record-breaking year is exciting news that all Georgians can celebrate,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Debbie D. Alford. “With all Georgia Lottery profits benefiting the lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs, our success directly affects Georgia’s students and families.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
